The Chicago Department of Aviation said a single-engine Pilatus PC-12 plane was noticed shooting off sparks as it landed Thursday evening at O'Hare International Airport. After it safely came to a stop, officials noted the landing gear assembly from the left side of the aircraft was missing.

Police, meanwhile, responded to the Jefferson Park neighborhood on reports airplane landing gear having fallen on the residential area.

Neighbors said the wheel made a loud noise as it crashed to the ground in a resident's front yard, between the house and another home.

Residents said no one was injured by the wheel and there were no reports of significant property damage.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board said they opened an investigation into the incident.
