A video of Sekhon's jump was posted to Facebook by Loughborough University, the school Sekhon attended.

"I feel a sense of shock when I think about it and I get a little emotional when I see it on video. I've put in a lot of work and sacrifice to achieve this. The response I'm getting for it from the worldwide jumping community is overwhelming. I'd like to thank everyone for their love and support," Sekhon told The Star newspaper.

Sekhon said he trained for nearly 5 months to break the record.

The athlete said his sights are now set on breaking the record for the standing long jump record.

The Nizhne-Svirsky Nature Reserve in Leningrad Oblast said in a Facebook post that the black woodpecker, nicknamed Zhelna by researchers, apparently was hunting for insects when it unintentionally committed "vandalism" on the camera.

The reserve shared video of the woodpecker methodically pecking away at the camera until it broke.

"Zhelna quickly discovered the camouflaged device and for several days methodically hit the camera," the post said.

The reserve said the camera has been removed for repairs and likely will be out of commission for some time.

"I started jumping in Lake Michigan on June 13 [2020], that was the primary day, and therefore the first day I decreased here was because i used to be hungover. And it felt so good I just started doing it a day ," O'Conor told WLS-TV.

O'Conor said he found jumping into the lake was an honest thanks to clear his mind of the world's ills.

"You know, with everything that was happening, you mention June, it had been the pandemic and therefore the refore the politics and the protests, just all of that, I could come down here and dive within the water and it might just quite clear it, clear the palette and cleanse the day, start anew," he said.

O'Conor said the winter months were the foremost difficult of his routine, thanks to the frequently that he incurred cuts and scrapes from hacking through the ice to form an outsized enough hole for him to succeed in the water.

O'Conor ended up partnering with an area group to boost money for live music venues that took a financial beating from the pandemic.

"I'm an enormous fan of live music and just wanted to support the local venues so I partnered up with Civl Chicago, the Chicago independent venue league, and just of these small venues that basically are suffering from COVID," he said. "They were the primary to shut and they'll be the last to reopen. And so, i assumed it had been important to offer back to the community that has given me such a lot joy over the years. So I teamed with them and other people started donating directly ."
